Four mayors gather to support Greenlight Pinellas

St. Petersburg, Florida – Four mayors gathered on Tuesday afternoon to show their support for Greenlight Pinellas, a plan that they say would dramatically change the face of transportation in the Bay area.

"This is a plan to raise the standard of transit in Pinellas County to all of the other major metropolitan areas," said Mayor R.B. Johnson of Indian Rocks Beach.

Police: Largo teacher caught in restroom with teen boy

Largo, Florida -- A fourth-grade Largo teacher has been charged with sending nude images to a teenager after they were caught together in a rec center bathroom.

Largo police on Monday were called to the Highland Recreation Center, 400 Highland Ave., after a report that a woman and a juvenile were seen entering a unisex restroom on the second floor, police said. The woman and boy remained inside for about 10 minutes before police arrived.

George Baletsa, 45, of 5 Austin Lane Byfield, Mass., had been playing with children at Indian Rocks Beach and then decided to go for a swim, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. He was found unresponsive by a fisherman in the area of 1308 Gulf Blvd.

Ireland Nugent throws first pitch at Rays game

St. Petersburg, Florida -- It was a special day at the park for Ireland Nugent. She got to throw out the first pitch at Sunday's Tampa Bay Rays game.

The 3-year-old girl lost both of her feet after a lawn mowing accident last year. She's been working with different doctors to get perfect-fitting prosthetics.

Ireland's parents are hoping that the young girl will be ready to start school next fall.

Alex's Lemonade Stand held in Clearwater for pediatric cancer research

Clearwater, Florida -- A nationwide effort to raise money for pediatric cancer research is happening right here in the Bay area.

Children and families hosted an Alex's Lemonade Stand at a Toys-R-Us in Clearwater.

It all started eight years ago when a Pennsylvania girl named Alex had cancer. She opened a lemonade stand to help her friends she knew at the hospital.

She passed away in 2004, but her lemonade stand concept continues.

A panel of worldwide experts is in Clearwater to give them bold, new ideas to transform downtown. A lot of the ideas are amazing, including the idea for a coffee shop.

Motorcyclist shocked by video of his own crash: he walks away unharmed

Clearwater, Florida - "Wow, that's crazy, I straight up walked away. Wait, go back!" said Michael Smith.

It's video that is SO shocking even the guy in it has to watch it twice. Clearwater police say a car made an improper left turn after the light turns red. An oncoming motorcyclist hit the car and flipped in the air! But you can see the motorcyclist gets up and walk away and, amazingly, he was not hurt.
