Crossing Guard killed while standing on sidewalk red light runner; 2 girls hospitalized


Clearwater, Florida - A retired police officer is dead and two young girls are in the hospital following a crash in Clearwater on Tuesday morning.

70-year-old Doug Carey had been on the force for about 20 years and was now working as a school crossing guard.

Crossing Guard killed after crash in Clearwater


Clearwater, FL - A crossing guard was killed and two children injured following a two-car crash at Belcher Road and Gulf to Bay Boulevard in Clearwater.

Two girls of preschool age were taken to Bayfront Medical Center as trauma alerts. The driver of the car they were riding in ran from the scene, but has since been taken into custody.

Clearwater Police say the pedestrian killed was Doug Carey, a school crossing guard and retired police officer.

Elderly man run over by SUV meets his hero


St. Petersburg, Florida -- With tears in his eyes, standing with his walker in tow, 75-year-old Eugene Stenov finally got to meet one of the people responsible for saving his life.

"I can't thank you enough!" he tells them.

This reunion between Eugene and Lieutenant Steve Larson of St. Pete Fire Rescue is 3 1/2 months in the making. On Jan. 23 at 1:30 in the afternoon was a moment Eugene will never forget.

"I remember it like it was yesterday," he says.

Clearwater, Florida -- Dozens of family and friends of 9-year-old Felecia Williams arrived at the rocks and trees marked with red paint along the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

Crash closes Pinellas Bayway


ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Two people are dead after a three-vehicle near Tampa Bay.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said the accident happened just before 10 p.m. Saturday on the Pinellas Bayway near St. Pete Beach.

Investigators say a 2004 Chevy Tahoe crossed the center line as it entered a right curve heading toward a toll area. The vehicle struck a Ford F250 and a Honda slammed into the truck.

Pedestrian hit, killed in Pinellas Park


Pinellas Park, Florida -- A 33-year-old man was struck and killed when he stepped in front of a minivan.

The accident happened on Gandy Blvd. approximately a quarter of a mile east of the intersection at Grand Ave., according to the Pinellas Park Police Department.

Authorities say David Matyasovsky was struck by a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country operated by Elizabeth Kaczenski, 78, of Spring Hill.

Matyasovsky was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with life threatening injuries. Kaczenski was not injured.
