Why do they call it that? Kenneth City

Why do they call it that? Kenneth City

The "Kenneth" behind Kenneth City: he really exists, he's still around, and we found him!

Why do they call it Kenneth City?

When this tiny Pinellas County town was officially chartered in 1957, developer Sidney Colen took the town's entire population -- more than 450 people -- out to dinner.

At the Coliseum in St. Petersburg, Sidney's son Kenneth helped take the wraps off plans for a new community hall.

Pinellas compromises on tourist tax extension

Pinellas compromises on tourist tax extension

PINELLAS COUNTY, Florida - Following a four-and-a-hour meeting, the Pinellas Co. Board of County Commission (BOCC) approved a compromise that will extend the five percent rate to 2021.

The initial proposal, which called for an indefinite extension of the five percent rate, failed to get the five-vote supermajority necessary.  But when Commissioner Neil Brickfield switched his vote on the compromise plan, the 2021 extension passed, 5-2.

In October, the BOCC drafted an ordinance that would pave the way for funding for the new Dali Museum as well as a potential new baseball stadium in Pinellas County.  However, newly-elected Commissioner Norm Roche has expressed interest in letting the tax lapse with no new stadium proposal on the table.

Southern Miss headed to St. Pete for Beef O'Brady's Bowl

Hattiesburg, MS (Sports Network) - Southern Mississippi has accepted an invitation to play in the Beef O'Brady's Bowl.

The game will take place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida on December 21 against an opponent from the Big East.

"We are extremely excited about the opportunity to play in St. Petersburg in Florida," said Southern Miss head coach Larry Fedora. "It is a great area with great weather and we have the opportunity to play a quality opponent from the Big East. We are thrilled about being able to play another game."

Southern Miss finished the regular season 8-4 and will play in a bowl game for the ninth straight year. The Golden Eagles lost to Middle Tennessee in last year's New Orleans Bowl and beat Troy in the same bowl game the year before.
