Two injured in early morning house fire


St. Petersburg, FL - St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue responded earlier this morning to a house fire located at 7363 17th Way N.

When fire crews arrived on scene they found heavy black smoke and flames coming from the roof. Fire crews made entry into the home to extinguish the fire and found two men still inside the structure.

The men, ages 55 and 26, were taken to an area hospitals for observation and appeared to have non-life threatening injuries.

Peoples Budget Review says bus riders surveyed don't know enough about Greenlight Pinellas.


Pinellas County, Florida -- Pinellas County bus riders are learning more about a referendum that would affect their every day commutes.

A local group, called the Peoples Budget Review, has been surveying riders for three weeks about their knowledge of a November ballot referendum called Greenlight Pinellas: the mass transit plan.

Storage building damaged by fire in Palm Harbor


Palm Harbor, Florida -- Arson detectives with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office have joined Palm Harbor Fire Rescue and the State Fire Marshall in the investigation into an overnight fire that destroyed a private storage facility and all of its contents on ALT 19 near Klosterman Road Wednesday.

The sheriff's office says a total of 80 recreational vehicles were destroyed including boats, RVs and classic cars at Florida West RV Storage Facility at 4470 ALT 19.

Debbie and Dan Gosche are among the victims.

One dead after car crashes hits bus stop, tree and porch


St. Petersburg, FL - A man is dead after he apparently lost control of his car, drove through a bus stop and crashed into the front porch of a St. Petersburg house.

The crash happened shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday in the 3300 block of 49th Street North.

St. Petersburg Police say the car was reported to have been speeding with its headlights turned off just before it ran off the road. They say it also hit a tree before slamming into the porch, and broke into several pieces

Preparations for the pier 60 sand festival are underway


Clearwater Beach, FL -- Preparations for the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival are underway.

It takes a year of planning and nearly two weeks to get the sand ready. Despite a rainy start, crews have been out moving mounds of sand into a giant tent. By Wednesday, 15,000 square feet will be filled with 1,000 tons of sugar sand.

The festival goes from April 4th through the 14th.

Illinois friends praying for Clearwater plane crash victims


Clearwater, Florida -- Flowers and a card now sit in place of where a small plane crashed on Saturday in Clearwater.

The card reads, "RIP Jeff. Get well soon Katie and Keyana. Tampa Bay Fire and EMS."

Banner plane makes emergency landing in Pinellas


Pinellas County, Florida -- An advertising banner plane crashed in the water near Albert Whitted Airport on Sunday afternoon.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, the 1951 Cessna L19 "Bird Dog," which is owned by Advertising Air Force, ditched in the waters of Tampa Bay about 300-400 yards southeast of the Coast Guard base at Bayboro Harbor.

The pilot, 36-year-old Robert Gilchrist, managed to escape from the cockpit and sat on top of the plane until a rescue team arrived to pick him up. He was not injured.
