Undercover op nets 9 in notorious neighborhood

Pinellas Park, Florida-- After a series complaints from residents in Pinellas Park's Carrolwood Apartment complex, an undercover operation landed nine of 14 suspects behind bars on various drug charges. 

According to deputies, the investigation, called "Operation Carrolwood", launched months ago because of other renters' repeated reports of drug deals. 

Throughout the undercover op, narcotics detectives say they successfully purchased drugs- including meth, oxycodone and crack cocaine- from multiple residents and area locals.

Vandals target traffic control devices in Clearwater community

Clearwater, Florida -- The Clearwater Police Department is asking for the public's help finding those responsible for damaging traffic control devices along the roadways/bridges of the Island Estates community.

Police say overnight, numerous "flex posts" were cut off at the base of their post supports which removed the warning devices from the roadway in both the 400 block of Island Way and on Harbor Passage. 

Tornado damage in another St. Pete neighborhood

St. Petersburg, Florida - Residents in another St. Petersburg neighborhood are dealing with cleanup after a tornado tore through on Monday night. At least two homes we damaged along Mortola Drive. The tornado started as a water spout.

In one case, the twister tore off a home's carport. The owner Tuesday said he heard all the wind, but didn't know what happened to his home at first.

Fight between brothers involves hammer and knife

St. Petersburg, Florida -- St. Pete Police officers are investigating a stabbing that occurred during a fight between two brothers.

Investigators say it appears Emanuel Webb attacked his brother, Carlos, with a hammer during the fight around 2 a.m. Tuesday. In self-defense, Carlos, picked up a knife and stabbed Emanuel in the chest.

Police say Carlos, 58, did have injuries consistent with being hit with a hammer, but didn't require medical treatment. Emanuel, 57, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center where he is listed in serious condition.

Prospect of hurricane aftermath has mayor "scared"

Clearwater, Florida - The city's pro-active stance for dealing with a bad hurricane has a down side.

A section of the "Post Disaster Redevelopment Plan" under review includes aerial photographs depicting what the beach would look like if struck by a serious storm surge.

"This is what scares me," said Mayor George Cretekos at the council's workshop session.

"Whenever you head of a disaster you pray that we'd be given the strength to be able to come back home," the mayor said.
