PTEC campuses host regional SkillsUSA competition this week | Arts & Culture
More than 500 students from Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties are expected to compete in the two-day SkillsUSA regional competition Feb. 6 - 7 at pTEC, Clearwater and St. Petersburg.
Students will compete in numerous categories including automotive service technology, cosmetology, welding, photography, and plumbing.
The competition begins at 7 a.m. each day. An awards ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. Feb. 7 at pTEC’s St. Petersburg campus. Winners from the regional competition will advance to the state competition held April 28, in Pensacola.
First place winners from the state competition advance to the national competition June 24 - 28 in Kansas City, MO.
SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and postsecondary students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. It was formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).
