Gulfport Arts Center gets new life

Gulfport, Florida -- Gulfport Arts Center will receive new polished concrete floor with the help of volunteers who will come together to give community center new life.

Four volunteers dove into a major renovation of the Gulfport Arts Center building in Gulfport today starting at 7 a.m. and should take approximately two days to complete.

The building, located at 2726 54th St. S., has provided decades of service to the community and is badly in need of a "fix up".

David Gelinas, a flooring restoration expert, will diamond polish, stain and seal the concrete floors in the approximately 1,000 sq. ft. facility now that the old vinyl tile has been removed.

He expects to find an old concrete floor that will not only be made beautiful and stylish but will give the Gulfport Arts Center and City of Imagination Inc. years of service. And all the work will be done with environmentally-friendly materials and procedures.

One of the many recent uses of the building was for a fundraising art show that showcased the artistic abilities of three autistic teenage Pinellas residents. It was a great success.
