Finance Park educates eighth graders on budgeting basics | Business
Clearwater, Florida-- Our future learns to plan for their future through Finance Park in Pinellas County.
Finance Park is a program at the Stavros Institute in Largo that teaches eighth graders in Pinellas all about personal finance and budgeting.
The program is a partnership between the Pinellas Education Foundation, Pinellas County Schools, and the Stavros Institute that allows children to "study different financial decisions to be made, consider the options available to them, and actually construct a personal budget."
On May 16, Bouchard Insurance in Clearwater signed a 10-year contract with the Pinellas Education Foundation to sponsor and support the program.
The company will contribute a booth where students will practice purchasing auto and homeowners insurance with their established monthly budget from the program in mind.
According to Bouchard Insurance representatives, their booth should be functioning in time for the '12 - '13 school year.
In addition to learning how to budget for necessities like auto and homeowners' insurance, Finance Park teaches children to consider planning for transportation, investment, housing, entertainment, health care, utilities, food, and other expenses.
