Tug boat pilots save the Pier from drifting barge

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Jonny Reno has reported an extra large barge was adrift Sunday morning during Tropical Storm Debby and dragging hooks towards the St. Pete Pier.

It was thanks to two very talented tug boat pilots who managed to push the barge--that at one point reportedly came within 75 of the corner--away from the Pier. After they "pushed" it away, Reno says the pilots took the next hour to guide the drift of the barge to the northwest side of the Pier.

The pilots tied the barge back out into the Bay away from the fragile ecosystem of the North Shore Ridge.
