St. Petersburg, FL - The Amir Academy of Martial Arts is holding its 9th Annual Christmas Bikes for Kids event tonight in St. Petersburg and needs everyone's help in reaching their goal of 200 bicycles again this year.

Each year the Amir Academy gives 200 bicycles to area children. The children are selected by two non-profit organizations, Women on the Way and Male Outreach, which are working to improve the lives of families in need in the Saint Petersburg area. The Amir Academy purchases the bikes pre-assembled from Walmart at the end of November for only $40 per bike.

In addition to the bicycles, Mr. Amir also gives one single mother an automobile. Last year's recipient of the car was a single mother raising two young boys, going to school full time and working full time. She was relegated to taking city buses everywhere, and was the perfect candidate to receive a car as a gift. She is still in school working toward her degree, and no longer has to shuffle the kids around on a bus.

The 9th Annual Bikes for Kids event will be held at the Amir Academy of Martial Arts at 2700 22nd Street N. St. Petersburg, FL 33713-4014 on Friday, December 17th from 5pm-8pm. A large buffet dinner and beverages will be provided, as well.

Some of the event's guests include: Governor Charlie Crist, Mayor Bill Foster, Former Mayor Rick Baker, Police Chie Chuck Harmon, and Fire Chief James Large.

For more information on this event, please call Mr. Eric J. Parker, Program Director Amir Academy at 727-821-4097 or email eric@amiracademy.com.
