"Sandtastic" sand sculpture to highlight Clearwater events | Community Spirit
Clearwater Beach, Florida - A huge sand sculpture will be carved at Pier 60 next week to promote the major attractions that put a spotlight on Clearwater.
Work on the 75-ton "Sandsational Clearwater 2011" sculpture will begin September 10 by the sand sculpting company Team Sandtastic, based in Sarasota.
"Look for the sculpture to feature Winter the dolphin and Clearwater Marine Aquarium as well as Jazz Holiday, Super Boat Races, Phillies spring training, Clearwater's powdery white sand beaches and more," the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce stated. "Known for amazing wildlife, recreation, culture, sun and sand, do not miss this opportunity to see 150,000 pounds of sand tell the Clearwater story."
Weather permitting, the sculpture will be ready for viewing by the week of Sept 13-17, and will be lit during evening hours.
"We are thrilled that this project has become a reality with tremendous community support. The sand sculpture will be readily visible to the 150 national and international media in town prior to the movie release of Dolphin Tale," says Bob Clifford, President/CEO, Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber says the sponsors for the sculpture include Baystar Restaurant Group, Pier 60 Concessions, Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach, Hilton Clearwater Beach, Sandpearl Resort, City of Clearwater and CCM Graphic Solutions, as well as Holiday Inn & Suites Clearwater Beach, Sheraton Sand Key, Shephard's Beach Resort, Palm Pavilion Beachside Grill & Bar, Frenchy's Rockaway Grill and Clear Sky Beachside Cafe.
