Crowds of kids help reopen Discovery Playground

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- If the crowds of kids enjoying the  Discovery Playground are any indication, the city's renovation project was a huge success!

The city held a grand re-opening of the playground Monday at the Tarpon Springs Sports Complex.  Mayor David O. Archie, City Commissioner Jeff Larsen and City Manager Mark LeCouris officially cut the ribbon with children from the Tarpon Springs Recreation summer program and Cops & Kids summer program anxiously awaiting their chance to try out the renovations.

Dunedin Fire Rescue needs your help with stocking up on fire safety education materials for our community outreach programs. Times are lean and help is needed to educate children and remind adults about fire prevention and what to do in the event of a fire.

Habitat for Humanity to dedicate home for family

Safety Harbor, Florida -- Habitat for Humanity has completed its' 5th home in Safety Harbor and will dedicate it on Friday, July 12. 

Safety Harbor Mayor Joe Ayoub, Vice Mayor Nina Bandoni, Commissioner Cliff Merz and City manager Matt Spoor will present a flag to the homeowner. All of them volunteered their time to help build the home. 

The home was built for Kitina Loving and her three children. The dedication will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 12.

Gulfport, Florida -- We got a taste of hurricane season right off the bat this year with Tropical Storm Andrea.  Andrea spawned a waterspout that came ashore as a tornado in downtown Gulfport on the morning of June 6. The storm caused a good deal of damage to some homes and local businesses, and felled many trees and power lines as it moved from the beach northward to Clymer Park and beyond.
