Pier Aquarium re-stocks fish before tonight's Holiday stroll

Pier Aquarium re-stocks fish before tonight's Holiday stroll

Saint Petersburg, FL - New fish are moving into The Pier Aquarium's Big Tube aquarium today, marked by an official "restocking" ceremony that took place at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, with Curator of Exhibits Butch Ringelspaugh rigged onto high scaffolding to deliver a few fish into the 20-ft. tall tank.

The much anticipated event is the follow-up to an electrical mishap in early August that cut off the electricity to "the Big Tube," the largest of three circular tube aquariums in The Pier's first floor lobby, that resulted in the loss of the animals. The 20-ft. tall tank had about 35 large fish, many considered "showstoppers."

Bay area hockey mom pushes for change at ice rinks statewide

Bay area hockey mom pushes for change at ice rinks statewide

Palm Harbor, FL - "When you watch your son and know everyone else on the team is experiencing that they cannot breathe, it was pretty scary, " said hockey mom Nancy Price of Palm Harbor back in January of 2009.

Her son, Shaun, and the rest of his hockey team got sick while playing at a Bay area rink.  It turns out, the boys were poisoned from carbon monoxide that leaked from an ice re-surfacing machine.

Since then, Price has been a mom on a mission to ensure air quality in the twenty ice rinks across the state.

She even garnered the attention of the national sports network, ESPN.

Price said, "The majority of the people that go to these rinks are children.  They are our children for pete's sake!"

Last year, Price pushed State Senator Mike Fasano to fit the rink regulations into an existing bill but it didn't work out.

Amir Academy's 9th Annual Christmas Bikes for Kids

St. Petersburg, FL - The Amir Academy of Martial Arts is holding its 9th Annual Christmas Bikes for Kids event tonight in St. Petersburg and needs everyone's help in reaching their goal of 200 bicycles again this year.

Each year the Amir Academy gives 200 bicycles to area children. The children are selected by two non-profit organizations, Women on the Way and Male Outreach, which are working to improve the lives of families in need in the Saint Petersburg area. The Amir Academy purchases the bikes pre-assembled from Walmart at the end of November for only $40 per bike.

In addition to the bicycles, Mr. Amir also gives one single mother an automobile. Last year's recipient of the car was a single mother raising two young boys, going to school full time and working full time. She was relegated to taking city buses everywhere, and was the perfect candidate to receive a car as a gift. She is still in school working toward her degree, and no longer has to shuffle the kids around on a bus.

Palm Harbor boy gets big treat from the Heat

Palm Harbor, Florida-Two things are certain about 8 year old Christian Liebert: He loves basketball and the Miami Heat. No surprise, he'd make a birthday wish to see them play.

"I didn't really want a party," said Chrisitan. "I just wanted to see some good players go out and play."

His parents bought the tickets in June, so when news broke in July that Christian's favorite player, LeBron James had signed, it was icing on the cake. With his wish granted, Christian headed to October's NBA exhibition at the St. Pete Times Forum with his father and grandfather.

"I was just thinking it would be the best night of my life," said Christian.

But then, in a fluke, the game was canceled after the floor was too slippery to play.
