Gulfport clothing swap

Gulfport, Florida -- Gulfport's next free clothing swap will take place on Tuesday, May 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

This event is scheduled on the second Tuesday of each month and takes place in the courtyard adjacent to the Peninsula Inn at 2937 Beach Blvd. South. It will take place at the Gulfport Tuesday Fresh Market.

Clearwater Beach, Florida - The art of Tai Chi will be demonstrated next month at the beach library.

Tai Chi master Bob Therriault will show how the practice, once considered only a martial art, is now used worldwide to reduce stress, improve general health and build strength through slow movements.

The session is scheduled for May 14th at 1:30 p.m. at the beach library, 69 Bay Esplanade.

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Humane Society of Pinellas is holding a photography contest for kids!

In honor of "Be Kind to Animals Week" children and teens can enter the contest by submitting a photo they took of a pet being treated kindly- or is just happy. There will be two age groups: 6-11 years and 11-16  years. 

The contest will run now through May 31 and is open to all children between the ages of 6 adn 16.

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County is looking for medical doctors, dentists and other health professionals who can give their time towards helping those in need.

Those who donate their time can earn CEUs and apply the hours they give to their license renewal fees. Hours are flexible and locations include health departments from Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg, community clinics of the volunteer's own practice.

Mail carriers collect food for Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive!

Carrollwood, Florida - Mail carriers will take part in the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Residents can leave non-perishable food item by their mailbox and the letter carrier will pick it up. The food will be donated to food banks to distribute to needy citizens.

Last year, over 70-million pounds of food was donated across the country.

If you cannot leave food items by your mailbox, you can drop it by your local post office.

Friday night, a peloton of cyclists saddled up at Stetson University College of Law and pedaled their way to downtown Gulfport. The cyclists included local politicians, a handful of non-Stetson locals, and students from a Stetson environmental advocacy class, taught by professor Lance Long.
