Group plans fundraisers for new playground

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- The Citizens Alliance for Progress (CAP) is hoping a pair of fundraisers will help them build a new playground for the community.

CAP plans two events over the weekend to fund its KaBOOM! playground at the Union Academy Family Center.  The first will be a Fish Fry on Friday from 5:00-9:00pm.  Sandwiches will cost $6, full dinners are just $10.

Then on Saturday, CAP is throwing an Old School Dance Party beginning at 7:00pm. Tickets are just $20 per person or $35 for a couple.

St. Petersburg, Florida -- You can help with a variety of different projects from home improvements, painting, mowing, weeding, yard work and cleanups throughout neighborhoods on Saturday, September 28th for CareFest USA.

It's part of Mayor Bill Foster's I C.A.N. initiative which stands for Involved Citizens Active in Neighborhoods.

Gulfport, Florida 00 The street we all call 53rd – the one where you find city hall – used to be called Lee Street. While volunteering with the Gulfport Historical Society, George Allen discovered the "Streets and Avenues" collection. These books, compiled by the Gulfport author Lynne Brown, list almost every street in Gulfport and contain histories of the houses. Mr. Allen learned that his street used to be called Casaurina, a type of tree native to Australia, although his home doesn't have a specific entry.

Largo, Florida - Gulf Coast Giving has received a first-ever proclamation from the Pinellas County School Board and Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners recognizing September 23rd through September 27th, 2013, Cyberbullying Awareness Week.

The host of the week, Gulf Coast Giving, will be hosting a first ever concert celebration featuring local professional artists on Friday, September 27th 6pm-9pm.

The event is free for Pinellas schools and the community-at-large.
