Kids can help design and create their dream playground

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- The Tampa Bay Rays, Citizens Alliance for Progress, Inc. and organizers from KaBOOM! need some young inspiration to help design a new playground at the Union Academy Family Center.

Organizers are asking kids to put crayon to paper and draw their dream playground. Elements from those drawings will be incorporated into the final design for the new playground which will be built in November at the Union Academy Family Center. Currently the center has no playground.

Gulfport, Florida -- When hearing that the book sale benefitted the library and its building fund, South Pasadena resident Steve Kelly handed library administrator Phyllis Ruscella an extra five dollars. Mr. Kelly bought 12 books and a small collection of National Geographics. "That will keep me busy for a while," he said.

Pinellas County’s Master Food & Nutrition Volunteer program set to begin soon

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Pinellas County Extension Master Volunteer University is looking for volunteers to help whip up a healthier community. Scheduled to begin in October, the Master Food and Nutrition Volunteer program allows persons to share with county residents valuable lessons about nutrition, fitness, wellness and culinary arts in a fun environment.

Volunteer for Cross Bayou Canal & Joe's Creek cleanup

Pinellas County, Florida -- Help keep the area beautiful by volunteering to cleanup the area.

Join Keep Pinellas Beautiful on Saturday, September 7 and help cleanup the water. The event begins at 8:00 a.m. and volunteers will be collecting trash in and around the water.

Volunteers should bring comfortable clothing, closed toed shoes, hat, sunscreen and a towel or chair to sit on during lunch.

Trash grabbers, bags, gloves, map and water will be provided along with lunch and a free drawing for raffle prizes. The event will end at 12:30 p.m.

Jiggleman Delights, as Does Gulfport Library

Gulfport, Florida -- Giant balls tumbling in the air. A man in giant white suit inflated by a leaf blower. Balloons soaring overhead – way over the tops of the books that announce the library as A Serious Place. That serious place is in serious danger of collapsing into a house of giggles.
