Rehab facility coordinator charged in homicide | Crime
St. Petersburg, Florida -- The coordinator of a rehab center was arrested Tuesday in connection with the murder of a man previously charged with robbing the facility.
According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, 48-year-old Troy Charles was identified by two witnesses as the man who fatally shot 41-year-old Samuel Harper around 2:40 Tuesday morning.
The witnesses told police Charles walked into the home in the 4000 block of 22nd Ave. S. through an unlocked door and immediately started arguing with Harper.
Police say they are not sure what the argument was about, but at one point Charles pulled out a gun and shot Harper in the head.
Harper's girlfriend, one of the witnesses at the time, ran to a neighbor's to call police. Harper was pronounced dead at his home in a bedroom.
Charles was arrested at the Back to Life Rehabilitation Center, where he lives and serves as the coordinator for the facility. Police also recovered a handgun at the center, but it's unclear yet if it was the one used in the shooting.
Police say on Feb. 14, Harper and another man were both arrested and charged in a burglary that occurred at the Back to Life Rehab Center. However, it is not known yet whether this had anything to do with the shooting.
Charles, 2211 44th Street South, has been charged with First Degree Murder.
