Police search for person who hit elderly woman with truck

Seminole, Florida -- Pinellas County deputies are asking for the public's help identifying the driver of a pickup truck involved in the hit and run of an elderly woman Wednesday afternoon.

The sheriff's office says around 1:50 p.m., 76-year-old Barbara Gaymore was crossing Starkey Road, in front of Perkins Restaurant, pulling a blue suitcase when she was hit by a white pickup truck heading north.

Gaymore, of Dunedin, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Authorities say she suffered from a head injury, some fractures and abrasions to her legs and knees.

Parts of her blue suitcase were found at the scene however, deputies say the suitcase itself may have become lodged in the grill or undercarriage of the truck.

The vehicle is described as a white, Ford Ranger pickup truck with an extended cab and may have a chrome rear bumper. It is believed to have right front side damage.

An image of the truck was taken from a PSTA bus that was in the area just after the accident. The truck was last seen heading north on Starkey and then turned east on 94th Avenue.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Nick Lazaris of the Major Accident Investigation Team at 727-582-6200.
