Police investigate rash of lawn equipment thefts

St. Petersburg, Florida -- St. Pete Police detectives are asking for the public's help identifying suspects wanted for stealing lawn maintenance equipment from company vehicles.

Authorities say since Sept. 1, there have been 36 incidents, mostly on the western side of the city. They say while lawn maintenance workers are at a job site working, the suspects have been driving up to their vehicle and stealing unattended power equipment including edgers, trimmers, chain saws, and leaf blowers.

In several cases, they say one or two black male suspects have been seen but there are no descriptions available.

Detectives estimate approximately $100,000 in equipment has been stolen so far.

Anyone who has any information on these incidents is asked to call Detective Michael Egulf at 727-893-4066 or leave a confidential tip at 727-892-5000.
