Pinellas Park, Florida -- The Florida Highway Patrol’s Pinellas Park District will conduct intensified DUI enforcement tonight along U.S. Highway 19 from Park Road north to the Pasco County Line.

Additional troopers will be utilized and will specifically target impaired drivers Friday, June 28 to Saturday morning, June 29.

Florida Highway Patrol hopes to remove those drivers who are impaired by drugs and/or alcohol and thereby create a safer environment for all motorists. A completely preventable crime, DUI drivers were responsible for 920 fatal alcohol-involved traffic crashes last year and 190 fatal drug-involved crashes across the state of Florida.  One third of all fatal crashes investigated by law enforcement throughout Florida and the nation involved a DUI driver and as such the FHP will vigorously patrol the Bay area to continue to reduce those numbers which have fallen over the last several years.

Therefore, motorists are reminded to not drink and drive, utilize designated drivers and help prevent friends and family members from making the choice to operate under the influence.  Motorists are also urged to contact the FHP if they see or suspect impaired drivers on the highways by calling *FHP (*347).

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles provides highway safety and security through excellence in service, education and enforcement. The Department is leading the way to a safer Florida through the efficient and professional execution of its core mission: the issuance of driver licenses, vehicle tags and titles and operation of the Florida Highway Patrol.
