Sword-wielding man arrested for threats | Crime
Tarpon Springs, Florida -- A 22-year-old man was arrested Saturday night in Tarpon Springs, accused of threatening a group of teenagers with a three-foot sword.
The kids told police they saw Derek Hanson as they walked along Klosterman Road just before 10:30 p.m. They said he was wearing a black trench coat and noticed the sword under his coat.
The teenagers said Hanson dipped into some woods, then came back out in the open, pulled the sword out from under his coat, raised it above his head and headed toward the group. They ran off and called police.
Later, Hanson told police he was carrying a sword but denied he had threatened the teenagers.
Hanson was released from the Pinellas County Jail Sunday afternoon.
