Student shows off gun at school bus stop
Crime

St. Petersburg, Florida -- A 13-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday after police say he showed off a gun to other kids at his school bus stop Monday morning.

Police say the teen showed off the gun at the bus stop that picks up Azalea Middle School students on the corner of 6 Avenue South and 46th Street.

Authorities say the boy did not board the bus and did not attend school that day because he is currently on suspension.

Police were notified after one of the juveniles told their mother about the incident who told the school principal.

Tuesday morning, officers went to the teen's home in the 4400 block of 5th Avenue South and spoke to his mother about the alleged incident. She gave officers consent to search her son's room where a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun was located.

The teen was interviewed and police say he admitted to bringing the gun to the bus stop and to showing it to another student. He claimed that he had gotten the gun from another juvenile and officers are following up on that information.

The boy has been charged with one felony count of having possession of a weapon on school property.
