Woman says she accidentally shot and killed boyfriend

St. Petersburg, Florida -- A woman is facing a manslaughter charge after she says she accidentally shot and killed her boyfriend. 

St. Petersburg Police say 20-year-old Mandy Avis and her boyfriend, 23-year-old Michael Ward, were at a home off the 1900 block of 2nd Avenue North when it happened. 

Avis reportedly picked up the gun, pointed it at him and pulled the trigger, "thinking it was unloaded," police say. The gun went off, shooting Ward in the chest. 

Ward was taken to the hospital where he later passed away.

2 teens arrested in carjacking

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Two teens were arrested for carjacking a woman's SUV who had just arrived at a Walmart parking lot Thursday evening.

St. Pete Police say around 6:30 p.m., a 29-year-old woman had just parked her Toyota 4-Runner in the Walmart parking lot on 34th Street South.

As she was getting ready to get out, a 15-year-old got in vehicle through the front passenger door and demanded that she drive the car out of the lot.

Man floods stairwell of downtown St. Pete building

St. Petersburg, Florida -- St. Petersburg Police are asking for the public's help identifying the man who flooded the stairwell of a downtown building in the early morning hours of Nov. 12.

On Nov. 12, at 1:00 a.m., a man entered the stairwell from the Vue 19 Club located on the 19th floor of One Progress Plaza at 200 Central Avenue, then climbed to the 27th floor.

Suspects sought in string of car burglaries, vandalisms

St. Petersburg, Florida -- St. Petersburg Police detectives are searching for two men who committed a string of car burglaries and vandalisms in the Yacht Club Estates neighborhood around the 8000 block of 13th Avenue South early Saturday morning.

Detectives say, in total, eight cars were either entered or vandalized by scratching the paint with a metal object of some sort. All of the vehicles entered were left unlocked with purses and loose cash being taken.

Man uses concrete block to try to break into Family Dollar

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Despite using a concrete block and his foot to break the front glass door of a St. Pete Family Dollar, a man walked away empty-handed Friday morning. But police are still looking for him and they need your help identifying him.

St. Petersburg Police say on Friday, Nov. 22, at about 3:30 a.m. a man approached the Family Dollar Store at 1041 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South and, using a concrete block, tried to break out the front glass door.

Man arrested for beating wife with baseball bat

Clearwater, Florida -- A 35-year-old Clearwater man has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for beating his wife with a baseball bat.

Clearwater Police say earlier Monday, Jamel Lee Williams and his wife, Angel Nixon, got into a verbal argument in Room 18 of the Pleasant Inn, 1744 N. Fort Harrison Ave.

The argument turned violent when Williams pushed Nixon to the ground and began beating her in the head with his fist. Williams then grabbed a metal baseball bat and continued to hit Nixon with the bat as she laid on the floor.
