Kitchen fire leads to grow house bust

Palm Harbor, Florida -- A response to a house fire in Palm Harbor lead to something more, which included the discovering of a grow house and the arrest of the homeowner Friday night.

Investigators say the Palm Harbor Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded to reports of smoke at the home located in the 3700 block of Appleton Court around 8:38 p.m. The fire, which was quickly extinguished, was determined to be food cooking on the stove. 

Latvala calls for DOC review of Largo work release center

Largo, Florida -- State Sen. Jack Latvala is calling on the Department of Corrections to conduct a review of a Goodwill-run work release facility in Largo after two inmates from the center allegedly committed violent crimes in the community.

Michael Scott Norris is accused of killing two St. Petersburg men and setting a home on fire back on Sept. 30.

Elementary school teacher charged with child porn

Pinellas Park, Florida -- A teacher at a Pinellas Park elementary school faces multiple charges of child porn possession after files of young girls engaged in sexual activity were found on his computer.

Detectives with Crimes Against Children conducted a search of the home of John Kaneski on Edythe Drive in Dunedin after an undercover Internet investigation that began on Nov. 19, 2012, lead detectives to him.

Arsonist hits St. Pete neighborhood for 5th time

St. Petersburg, Florida -- A new year apparently hasn't brought a renewed sense of peace to a St. Petersburg community plagued by a rogue arsonist.

St. Pete Police say the community was hit with its fifth arson attempt last night at a vacant home in the 100 block of 79th Street South in the Causeway Isles neighborhood.

CPD releases results of New Year's Eve DUI detail

Clearwater, Florida -- The Clearwater Police Department has released the results of their DUI detail on New Year's Eve. In all, there were only 3 DUI arrests. 

Clearwater Police say some local cab companies reported a two-hour wait for their services, which was a very good sign those who had been drinking chose to stay away from the wheel.

New charges for puppeteer accused of child porn

LARGO, Fla. -- Federal prosecutors have filed additional charges against Ronald Brown, the Largo puppeteer accused of chatting online about kidnapping, killing and eating a young boy who attended his church.

The six new child pornography charges are on top of the two child pornography charges Brown already faced. 

Shots fired at St. Pete Police during arrest

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Police in St. Petersburg said several shots were fired at them early Wednesday morning as they were making an arrest, but no one was injured.

Shortly before 4 a.m., a car was seen driving recklessly as it left the Obama Express convenience store, located at 1400 18th Avenue South. The driver of the Toyota Camry got into two crashes as he left the area.

Then at about 4:30 a.m, St. Petersburg Police Officers responded to several calls of "shots heard in the area" of 4th Avenue South and 42nd Street South.
