Man sentenced to death for role in fatal robbery

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (AP) - A Tampa Bay area man has been sentenced to death after pleading guilty to two murders.

Pinellas County Judge Philip Federico ordered 29-year-old Khadafy Mullens to be sentenced to death Friday, saying the defendant killed two men as they begged and pleaded for their lives. 

Mullens waived his right to be sentenced by a penalty jury after he pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in April.

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- There's a new officer walking the beat  in Tarpon Springs and he's doing it on four legs.

The Tarpon Springs Police Department is welcominig its first K-9 team--Officer Tommy Nguyen and his partner Dobies, a pure-bred German Shepherd.

Officer Nguyen and Dobies were one of six K-9 teams to graduate from a rigorous four-month training program at the Pinellas Park K-9 compound.

Gulfport, Florida -- Although Gulfport Police Chief Rob Vincent told the city manager in a July 16 memo “it is unlikely we will be able to reduce actual crime any further” along the 49th Street corridor, Tuesday night he presented council with an almost-$150,000 plan to improve the community’s perception of 49th Street.

Man gets six years in prison for selling assault weapons

Palm Harbor, Florida -- A 24-year-old Palm Harbor man was sentenced to six years in federal prison for selling assault rifles, military weapons and explosive devices out of his home.

According to court documents, between May and November 2012, Steven Schriebman sold a number of high-powered assault rifles, including AK-47s, AR-15s, and an Uzi, to an ATF undercover agent.
