2nd arrest in fatal Clearwater shooting

Clearwater, Florida -- Deputies have arrested a second person in the murder of a Palm Harbor man on New Year's Day.

Danielle Barrett, 30, is charged with being a principle to second degree murder. She had been held in the county jail since January 5th on a warrant for drug possession, deputies said.

Detectives said she drove the alleged killer, Danny Lafever, 24, to and from the murder scene, "orchestrated the hiding of the vehicle used in the shooting" and had a friend dispose of the firearm used in the crime.

Largo, Florida -- Police have charged a transient man with the burning death last October 9th of Jennifer Guthrie, 27, in Largo.

Police say Jeffrey R. Grant, 37, lit the woman on fire behind a bank on Walsingham Road.

Police said Grant frequented homeless shelters and vagrant camps throughout the county and was located today in St. Petersburg.

He was booked into the county jail on a charge of 1st degree murder. 

According to jail records, it was his 22nd arrest in the county since 2006.

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- What started as a shoplifting charge became much more serious for Elzbieta Pogorzelski Sunday morning.

The Tarpon Springs woman, 42, was picked up for shoplifting at the Beall's Outlet store on U.S. Highway 19.  A loss-prevention worker at the store saw her stuffing underwear and baby clothes into her purse.

The employee notified police, who found the stolen merchandise--about $30 worth--in her purse.

Captain Jeff Young tells 10 News after the officer handcuffed Pogorzelski asked her: "I give you money, no jail?" in a thick, Polish accent.

The officer asked Pogorzelski if she had just offered her money to avoid jail.  Pogorzelski said yes.

Pogorzelski was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on charges of retail theft and bribery.  She is now free on bond.

Pogorzelski was arrested less than a week before by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office on a charge of trespassing.

Pinellas County, FL -- Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies are investigating around 250 reports of broken car windows due to vandalism.

According to deputies, they believe the damage was done by B-B gun rounds.


"My wife walked out here this morning, saw the windshield had been shot out, noticed the guy across the street's windows shot out too," said Chuck Hardenbrook.

St. Pete man accused of war crimes deported

St. Petersburg, FL (AP) -- A St. Petersburg man accused of committing war crimes in Bosnia has been deported.


Officials say Branko Popic was put on a commercial flight to Sarajevo over the weekend, after a U.S. immigration judge ordered his removal.


The judge concluded that the 62-year-old was a member of a military brigade responsible for the massacre of more than 8,000 Muslim civilians in the town of Srebrenica in July 1995.

Bank robber makes court appearance

Largo, FL -- Nathanael S. Zamora made his first court appearance today at the Pinellas County Courthouse in Largo.

Zamora was charged with armed robbery in the bank robbery of the Sun Trust Bank at 3705 East Bay Dr. in Largo Friday afternoon.

According to detectives, during the robbery, Zamora told witnesses he had a bomb.

Palm Harbor, Florida - June Mobley wasn't the type to stay out late.  In fact, most nights she was in fairly early.

She was in the midst of a painful divorce with a volatile man.

June's son would check on her each day to make sure his mother was alright.

The 49-year-old cherished her independence, but also knew when to ask for help.  If she needed anything from the attic, she would always call her son.
