Kenneth City, FL -- A man who fled a Central Avenue bar after being shot died this morning from his injuries.

Eric Maurice Whitfield, 42, was at the Something Different Bar at 2420 Central Ave. in St. Pete around 2:47 a.m. Saturday morning, Jan. 8 when gunfire broke out.

Officers in the area heard the gunshots, and when they responded, observed a large crowd in front of the bar fleeing the area, according to the St.

Largo, FL - According to a Pinellas County Sheriff’s report, a brief car chase ended in Largo at 10:45 a.m. on Jan. 4 with three arrests. 

An on-duty deputy noticed a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt traveling east on Ulmerton Road at Tall Pines Drive that matched the description of a vehicle witnesses had seen during a Jan. 2 armed robbery in the parking lot of the Seminole Hard Rock Casino.

The suspect car did not stop for the deputy, even after he activated his lights and siren, the report said. Instead, the driver sped up and tried to elude the deputy.

Man pleads guilty in shooting of 8-year-old girl

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida (AP) -- A man has pleaded guilty in the slaying of an 8-year-old St. Petersburg girl who died when bullets riddled her house in a drive-by shooting two years ago.

A prosecutor said 20-year-old Mario Lewis Walls was the driver of the car. He pleaded guilty Wednesday to second-degree murder and agreed to testify against the two other defendants.

Paris Whitehead-Hamilton was killed in her house when it was sprayed with more than 50 rounds from assault rifles in April 2009. Police said the defendants were trying to get back at someone else in the house who belonged to a rival gang or neighborhood group in south St. Petersburg.

Walls will be sentenced in May.

St. Pete police seek public's help to find stabbing suspect

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida -- St. Petersburg police are asking for help to find a man who stabbed a woman outside a St. Pete club on New Year's Eve.

According to police, at around 2 a.m., the 30-year-old woman and her friend were leaving the PUSH Ultra Lounge at 128 3rd St. S. when they were confronted by a man who grabbed the woman in a sexually suggestive manner.

The women yelled at him to leave them alone and proceeded south on 3rd St. S. to look for a cab. When they arrived in the area of the 300 block of 3rd Ave. S., the suspect again approached them, and this time grabbed the woman's dress and lifted it up.

The woman slapped him across the face, yelled at him to leave her alone and when she turned to walk away the man stabbed her multiple times in the back.

St. Petersburg, FL -- Three St. Pete men were arrested for Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute after police found just over 9 pounds of marijuana and nearly $4500 in cash in their cars.

The marijuana was seized during two surveillance traffic stops by the St. Petersburg Police Department Street Crimes Unit on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 29.

St. Petersburg, Florida - Leo Calzadilla is so determined to find the people responsible for setting fire to his RV, he is offering $5,000 of his own money as  reward for their arrest and conviction. 


It happened around 1:20 am on December 17th.  The RV was parked next to Calzadilla's business, Bad to the Bone Auto Accessories at 1446 34th Street South.


Surveillance cameras captured the suspects as they approached the RV and doused a flammable liquid near the vehicles gas tank before setting it on fire.

Largo man uses elderly mom's money on shopping spree

St. Petersburg, FL -- A man is accused of taking money from his 90-year-old mother to buy expensive gifts and services.

Roland Lawrence Jacobs, 56, of Largo was arrested by St. Petersburg police Monday on a charge of scheme to defraud. James used the money he took without his mother's knowledge on plastic surgery, tanning salons and gifts for others.

Authorities say Jacobs' sister noticed money missing from her mother's accounts and alerted police. The sister has power of attorney over their mother's affairs, who lives in St. Petersburg.

According to police, Jacobs set up an automatic draft from his mother's account to receive cash. He also ran up $15,000 in charges on at least two credit cards.

Jacobs was released from jail on a $20,000 bond on Monday.
