Holiday Lights heralds the start of the season in Pinellas County

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Florida Botanical Garden’s annual Holiday Lights in the Gardens event opens Friday, Nov. 29, at 5:30 p.m. More than 750,000 brilliant LED lights illuminate pathways and plazas throughout the gardens. Visitors also enjoy the wide array of seasonal decorations and displays, live holiday-themed entertainment and special visits with Santa Claus.

With approximately 80,000 visitors last year, the holiday event has become a perennial favorite for residents and visitors of the Tampa Bay area.  Every year, new displays delight patrons with fresh concepts and colors to celebrate the season.

An up-to-date schedule of nightly family friendly entertainment—including selected dates for Santa’s visits—can be found on the Florida Botanical Gardens’ website at www.flbg.org.

The Holiday Lights in the Gardens will be open through Wednesday, Jan. 1, every evening from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. A donation of $2 per person (13 years and older) is recommended. Refreshments are also available for sale each night and the Foundation will have a Holiday Gift Cart in addition to the specialty items at the Botanical Bounty gift shop.

The Holiday Lights in the Gardens is a completely volunteer-driven and staffed event. Volunteer opportunities are available.  Interested persons can email their full name, contact number and the days they would like to volunteer to flbgfoundation@gmail.com.

A video of the Holiday Lights can be viewed at www.youtube.com/pcctv1. Other events scheduled during the Holiday Lights include a Florida Botanical Gardens Foundation gift and plant sale on Sunday, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a dog parade on Sunday, Dec. 29 starting at 1 p.m.

The Florida Botanical Gardens is located at 12520 Ulmerton Road in Largo, with an alternate entrance at 12211 Walsingham Road. The gardens remain open from 7 a.m. until dusk every day, with free admission during daylight hours. For more information, visit www.flbg.org or call (727) 582-2100.
