Bake your way to a cupcake trophy

St. Petersburg, FL -- If you think your cupcakes are award-worthy, get your baking pans ready for The Great St. Pete Cupcake Contest. With the help of a panel of celebrity judges, the Morean Arts Center will award a glass cupcake trophy to the winner on National Cupcake Day, Aug. 18.

The panel will check out the cupcakes from 4 - 5 p.m. and announce a winner at 5 p.m.

It's free to watch, and $10 to enter the contest. You must fill out a contest entry form and liability and photo release. Both are available on the center's website.

The Morean Arts Center is located on Central Avenue.

Community Center Luau Dinner-Dance set for August 19

The Palm Harbor Community Activity Center, 1500 - 16th St., will present a luau dinner-dance on Friday, August 19, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. The event will feature a hula demonstration and music by "Royal Time."
 
The menu will include baked ham with pineapple glaze, scalloped potatoes, broccoli, rolls, dessert, coffee and tea. B.Y.O.B.
 
Tickets are $6 for Community Activity Center members; $8 for non-members; $3 for children under age 12. Advance, paid reservations are suggested.
