Fun, free Clearwater Audubon Society events

Clearwater, Florida -- The Clearwater Audubon Society is offering field trips and programs in May. 

On May 4 at 8 a.m. there will be a Brunch with the Birds at Moccasin Lake Nature Park. 

On May 6, also at the Moccasin Lake Nature Park, a presentation on the information about the birds of Cuba as well as the history of Cuba and its culture.

Pasco County, Florida -- Come learn about nature at Cypress Creek Preserve. 

On Thursday, April 11 at 11 a.m., people will be able to learn about non-flowering plants such as ferns, mosses and their allies. 

The event is free to the public and lead by an environmental educator. 

Again, the event will take place at Cypress Creek Preserve at 23999 County Line Road, Wesley Chapel.

High school students plant salt marshes to restore shoreline

Clearwater, Florida -- Countryside High School students will plant valuable salt marsh grasses to restore the shoreline of Feather Sound on the morning of Thursday, April 4th.

This hands-on project is part of the Bay Grasses in Classes (BGIC), an award-winning program sponsored by Tampa Bay Watch.

Pinellas County preserve has new April programs

Pinellas County, Florida -- Many hiking opportunities are available at Weedon Island Preserve in April.

Regular two-hour guided hikes begin at 9 a.m. each Saturday. Participants learn about the ecosystems and early residents of Weedon Island Preserve while hiking the coastal uplands and along boardwalks through mangrove forests. The hikes are best for ages 6 and older.

Get rid of household hazardous waste

Palm Harbor, Florida -- Drive up and drop off your hazardous and unwanted electronics and chemicals! Pinellas County Solid Waste offers this service free to county households. 

Drop-off time is from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Palm Harbor University High School which is located at 1900 Omaha St. in Palm Harbor.

Household electronics and chemicals - such as TVs, cell phones, computers, paints, motor oil, fertilizers and batteries - should never be dumped in the regular trash, drains, storm sewers or on the ground.
