Pinellas County celebrates with holiday events | Events
As the holidays approach, Pinellas County looks toward the Florida Botanical Gardens, Heritage Village and Pinellas County Animal Services for annual events that celebrate community spirit.
Holiday Lights in the Gardens
The Florida Botanical Gardens Foundation again hosts its annual event, Holiday Lights in the Gardens, nightly from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. from Friday, Nov. 23, through Tuesday, Jan. 1. With more than 500,000 lights adorning the thousands of plants and trees, visitors will once again enjoy the holiday ambiance and be surrounded with the glow of the season. Visitors will enjoy a new laser light show as well as lights decorating the new vinery garden and fountains at McKay Creek. The entertainment schedule will be updated and posted online at www.flbg.org. A donation of $2 is requested for adults, with free admission for children younger than 12. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
The Florida Botanical Gardens Foundation will also host the Gift and Plant Sale on Sunday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Complete your holiday shopping in a lovely botanical setting, choosing from more than 45 quality vendors offering unique gifts and live plants. After shopping, stay to see the magic of the Holiday Lights in the Gardens in the evening.
The foundation’s ever-popular holiday dog parade is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 30, beginning at 2 p.m. at Florida Botanical Gardens. Registration will be held from 1 to 1:45 p.m. the day of the parade.

The Pinellas County Historical Society sponsors two events at Heritage Village during the holiday season. First, Holiday Traditions will begin on Saturday, Nov. 24, and continue through Sunday, Dec. 30. During the normal operating hours, visitors to this 21-acre living history museum will find the historical houses decorated true to their time period, locality and lifestyle, from an elaborately decorated Victorian home to a simply adorned 1852 log cabin.
Trees and Traditions
Saturday, Dec. 1, is set aside for the popular Trees and Traditions at Heritage Village. There will be an open house with refreshments, children’s activities and crafts, holiday music, tours and a special visit from Santa Claus. This event, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. is free to children younger than 12; suggested minimum donation of $2 for adults. Heritage Village is located at 11909 125 St. N. in Largo. Pinellas Paws Cause Holiday Celebration
The Pinellas Paws Cause Holiday Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 8, is a great opportunity to share the holiday spirit with the whole family at Pinellas County Animal Services. Meet Captain Barky, the new star ambassador for Animal Services. Enjoy music by Radio Disney, food trucks, K-9 demonstrations, obedience dog training and free drawings. Photos with Santa Paws are available for a $5 donation. Dogs and cats will be ready and waiting to go home to new adopted families with $20 adoption and $5 rabies shot specials. About 30 animal rescue groups, the SPCA Tampa Bay and the Humane Society will be on hand. Vendors will offer crafts and specialty pet-themed items, pet services and animal-related products, and Florida Blood Services will be site. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is free to pets and families. All proceeds will benefit the Animal Welfare Trust Fund. All dogs must be leashed.
