Palm Harbor community center offers cooking class

Palm Harbor, Florida - The Palm Harbor Community Activity Center will offer a cooking class on March 19, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., taught by Chef Pat E. Dugan.

The cost for the class is $20 for Community Activity Center members, $23 for non-members.

Each student will purchase groceries from a prepared list and bring them to the class, leaving with several meals for the week that serve four people, along with the recipes and knowledge of how to prepare them at home.

Students will bring containers for each dish to carry them home. Students will work individually on two recipes and as a group on the soup-of-the-day. Chef Dugan will demonstrate a Mango Coleslaw recipe for students to sample.

In the basic lesson, students will master a 6-minute method to caramelize onions, learn how to pan-roast fresh broccoli and two ways to serve it, learn an easy way to zest and juice lemons and discover a quick method for pureeing soups.

Meal #1 will consist of Cheesey Stuffed Burgers with Caramelized Onions and Skillet Roasted Broccoli; Meal #2: Pistachio-Crusted Chicken Breasts and Mango Coleslaw; Meal #3: Skinny Cream of Broccoli Soup and Cuban Paninis with Green Olive Relish.
