Heritage Village presents third Speaking of History lecture

Pinellas County, Florida -- As part of the Speaking of History lecture series, educator, archivist and public historian Erin Mahaney will present The Literature of Florida’s Environment on Sunday, Nov. 17. The lecture will be held at 2 p.m. in the Pinellas Room at Heritage Village.

Mahaney recently worked on an important project while serving as archivist in the Arthur Vining Davis Library at the Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota. She examined various historical sources that document the work of naturalists, conservationists, preservationists and environmentalists.

Her research in this area has become part of a broad-based effort to illustrate trends in Florida’s environmental history by consolidating the historical record, uncovering new sources and archiving them in a way that promotes access.

A graduate of New College of Florida, Mahaney completed a master's degree that focused on historic preservation outside of Florida. She is an archivist and educator. Mahaney also serves as an officer in the Society of Florida Archivists.
