Heritage Village comes alive with folk festivities

Pinellas County, Florida -- Celebrations continue at Heritage Village with the Pinellas Folk Festival on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Dozens of Tampa Bay area's premier folk musicians will spread the sounds of traditional folk, gospel, country and bluegrass music on stages throughout the village.

This year, Leigh Humes Band and Abasi Ote will entertain the crowds with bands such as Juniper, Charlie Morris, Gypsy Wind, Rose Island Band and Charlie Cox Native Style Flute Music. The music won’t stop playing when the bands do. Two jam sessions, one bluegrass and one folk, will keep music flowing throughout the festival.

The McMullen-Coachman Log Cabin will also house storytellers during the festival. A group of retired train lovers, Four Men and Their Trains, will roll into the festival with their model trains, complete with accessories, to display and run on the platform of the Sulphur Springs Depot train station all day long.

The Folk Festival will also have traditional craft demonstrations, antique cars display, sugar cane grinding and boiling, a traditional fiber arts show and “Fleece-to-Shawl” activities.

The event will have a food court with a large variety of vendors to satisfy guests. Pulled Pork that has been smoked in the Smoke House at Heritage Village will made into delicious sandwiches and meat balls on a stick will be just some of the choices, as well as hotdogs, hamburgers, chocolate brownies, kettle corn and gourmet coffee.

Free parking and a shuttle to the event entrance will be located on 119th Street between Ulmerton and Walsingham roads.  Handicapped parking and drop-off is located in the parking lot at 12211 Walsingham Road.

A $5 donation is requested for adults and children older than 12. Admission is free for children younger than 12.
