Opera show hitting high notes this weekend

Pinellas Park, FL -- OPERAfest Florida presents "An Extravaganza of Song" tonight and tomorrow at the Pinellas Park Performing Arts Center, located at 4951 78th Ave. North.

The show starts this evening at 7:30 p.m., with a second showing to follow tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. Classically trained singers will perform arias, duets, songs and scenes from operas.

General admission is $10, $8 for students and seniors.  Tickets will be sold at the door one hour prior to show.  For more information, call 727-547-0396.

10 News and Chili's bring MLK blood drive to Pinellas

Pinellas Park, Florida -- January is the month of highest blood usage by patients in Tampa Bay. In addition to the existing need for blood, there is currently a critical need for more minority donors on the National Marrow Donor Program's 'Be The Match' Registry.

Therefore, Ten News has teamed up with Chili's restaurants to sponsor Ten News Martin Luther King Day Blood & Marrow Donor Registry Drive, on Monday, January 17, 2011. 

All lifesaving donors will receive a commemorative  Martin Luther King Jr. T-shirt, a Chili's FREE $5 Be Our Guest Coupon and a wellness checkup, including a cholesterol screening.  In addition, all blood donors will receive information on joining  the National Marrow Donor Program's 'Be The Match' Registry!

A bloodmobile will be at the Ten News studios, located at 11450 Gandy Blvd. in Saint Petersburg. 

Florida Blood Services bloodmobiles will also be located, from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m., at Tampa Bay area Chili's restaurants and Florida Blood Services Donor Centers at the hours shown below.

St. Pete Beach -- The St. Pete Beach Classic is today. The first race of the day is the 5K, followed by the 1 mile, the 10K and then the kids dashes.

Roads will be closed from 6:30am until 10:30am.

All events, along with race starts and finishes happen at The Sirata Beach Resort and Conference Center which is at 5300 Gulf Blvd., St. Pete Beach, FL 33706.

Dunedin, FL - The Dunedin Brewery is always a good place to hear great music while enjoying a homemade brew.

On Friday, January 14, 2011 starting at 9:00pm, you can enjoy the sounds of blues, rockabilly and folk music.  Blind Buddy Moody opens the show followed by the one-man-band Ben Prestage.

On Saturday, January 15, 2011 starting at 9:00pm, you can get the full jam band experience, Americana-style, with Earth Bombs Mars.  The four man band is from Tampa.

Gulfport Art Walk continues this New Year

Gulfport, Florida - A Gulfport "old tradition" continues this New Year. This weekend marks the start of the Gulfport Third Saturday Art Walk Saturday, January 15th from 6-10pm.

Event organizers tell us over 50 artists and crafters, as well as authors, antique dealers and entertainers stretched over a half-mile up and down scenic Beach Boulevard. Live entertainers, will be appearing at venues throughout the Village.

The latest installment of the Downtown Movie Night series will have concessions available for sale, but alcohol is prohibited. Bring your family and friends, along with your own seating, to this 93-minute PG-rated film.
