Gulfport Casino Ballroom hosts New Year's celebration

GULFPORT, Florida -- Spend New Year's Eve at the Historic Gulfport Casino Ballroom's, The New Year's Eve Celebration, at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom tonight.

The event will feature, Identity Crisis, a variety band playing popular dance music hits of each decade including a ballroom style dance, swing, Latin, and salsa in each set.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Celebrate and dance from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

The evening includes party favors, prizes, light edibles (you are also welcome to bring your favorite edibles), champagne toast at midnight, dance demonstrations, silent auction for the Gulfport Arts Center (A City of Imagination Project), full cash bar and free parking. Admission is $20.

Get your tickets in advance or at the door at the Gulfport Casino.

The Casino's business hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday (advance tickets suggested).

The Gulfport Casino Ballroom is located at 5500 Shore Boulevard S.

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida -- There's something for everyone at St. Pete's First Night celebration in downtown area tonight from Cajun dance lessons and music to the Pier Aquarium Labyrinth. 

First Night activities begin at 5 p.m. on December 31 with FirstKids in the BayWalk courtyard where the whole family can participate in hat making, mask making, a musical petting zoo, theater performances and much more.

Other activities throughout downtown start at 7 p.m. They include the Great Explorations Bubble Blast, the 4H Ballroom Dance Bicycle Brigade, drumming circle, Salsa music, First Night Bonfire, St. Petersburg Opera, Dundu Dole, T.A.S.C.O. teen activities, a performance by breakout band, Have Gun Will Travel, and of course fireworks at 9 p.m. with the finale fireworks at midnight.

Baseball returns to Al Lang this spring

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - Beginning on Feb. 21, 2011 and continuing through March 13, baseball fans will be able to return to Al Lang Stadium, one of Florida's first and most legendary venues for spring training, to enjoy a 13-game spring series that will include some of the world's best baseball teams paired against some of America's Major League Baseball franchises and college squads.


As first reported by 10 News in October, St. Petersburg's first season of International Baseball will debut in February, 2011. The series will feature three international teams - national teams from Canada and The Netherlands, along with the Seoul Nexen Heroes of South Korea (the No. 2 finisher in the 2009 World Baseball Classic).


The teams will play each other as well as the Rays, Blue Jays and the Phillies, and college teams including Penn State and St. Petersburg College.

St. Pete Beach, FL -- After a year's hiatus the St. Pete Beach Classic returns.

The highly popular event was cancelled in 2010 due to the illness of founder and event director Wendy Johnson.

“The event will include all of its past amenities - Health & Fitness Expo, Pre-race Beach Party & Bonfire, extensive post-race food and refreshments,” said Al Johnson, executive director for Motion Sports Management.

“The Sirata Beach Resort is our host, and will be the focal point for the activities.”

Seminole, FL - Bicycle Outfitters is hosting the "Christmas Lights Ride" through the Lake Park Estates neighborhood, located north of Bryan Dairy Rd. in Seminole, tonight at 8:00 p.m. There will be a hot chocolate stop along the route, plenty of festive Christmas lights, and even caroling at the community event.

Participants will gather with their bikes at Osceola High School, 9751 98th St. North.

Santa's sleigh to make final rounds tonight

Tarpon Springs, FL - Today is the last day of Santa's week-long tour through town to visit the community firemen in Tarpon Springs, so mark your calendars for a holiday visit from St. Nick and local firefighters.

Tonight's route will start at 6:30 p.m. and take the tour through areas south of Live Oak Street to Tarpon Avenue and east of Disston Avenue to Richard Ervin Parkway including: Publix Plaza, River Village Mobile Home Park, Paradise Lake Mobile Home Park, and Sail Harbor.

The caravan will spread holiday cheer as firefighters drive an antique fire truck throughout the streets, complete with holiday music, festive lights, and of course waves and shouts from Santa Claus himself!
