Tradewinds hosts Battle of the Bands pep rally for bowl game

Saint Pete Beach, FL - In preparation for the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl in Saint Petersburg tomorrow, Tradewinds Island Grand Resort is hosting a Battle of the Bands pep rally to showcase the marching bands of each of the competing schools this afternoon and pump up the team spirit before the big game.

This year's bowl game, formerly known as The St. Petersburg Bowl, will feature a match-up of the Louisville Cardinals and Southern Miss Golden Eagles. The respective bands from each college will go head-to-head themselves in the beach side concert battle and food-eating contest.

Cheerleader tug of war, an inflatable bounce house and boxing ring, and assorted refreshments will also please crowds at the tailgate on the sand.

The event will run from 2:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and is open to the public.

The meeting will be held at the facility, located at 14840 49th Street North, which is a former Pinellas County Jail Annex II being re-configured to serve as a shelter and social service headquarters for homeless persons who otherwise would be involved in the criminal justice system - a decision met with considerable controversy.

Saint Petersburg, FL - The law firm of Reeder & Nussbaum, P.A., is helping to make sure it’s a happy holiday for foster children who otherwise couldn’t be sure Santa would remember them this year.

The law firm made a monetary donation to Foster Angels of Hillsborough County, which works with Hillsborough Kids to provide gifts for more than 2,500 children in the system of foster care.  The Foster Angels non-profit provides carefully-matched gifts with the wish lists of the children.

On Tuesday, Dec. 21, Reeder & Nussbaum, P.A., will give back to the community in another way.  The firm’s co-founders, Andrew Reeder and Marc Nussbaum, are hosting a free “Ask A Lawyer” Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their St. Petersburg office, 2201 4th Street North, Suite G. Many times, people are involved in slip-and-fall cases, automobile crashes, or other painful situations and they don’t know whether or not they have a legal case.

Amir Academy's 9th Annual Christmas Bikes for Kids

St. Petersburg, FL - The Amir Academy of Martial Arts is holding its 9th Annual Christmas Bikes for Kids event tonight in St. Petersburg and needs everyone's help in reaching their goal of 200 bicycles again this year.

Each year the Amir Academy gives 200 bicycles to area children. The children are selected by two non-profit organizations, Women on the Way and Male Outreach, which are working to improve the lives of families in need in the Saint Petersburg area. The Amir Academy purchases the bikes pre-assembled from Walmart at the end of November for only $40 per bike.

In addition to the bicycles, Mr. Amir also gives one single mother an automobile. Last year's recipient of the car was a single mother raising two young boys, going to school full time and working full time. She was relegated to taking city buses everywhere, and was the perfect candidate to receive a car as a gift. She is still in school working toward her degree, and no longer has to shuffle the kids around on a bus.
