Travel vaccines now available at Mid-County Health Center

Largo, Florida -- If exotic travel plans are part of your summer itenerary, the Pinellas County Health Department is offering vaccines to make sure you are up-to-date before you pack your bags.

The Pinellas County Health Department is providing foreign travel vaccines at its new Mid-County Health Center, located at 8751 Ulmerton Road in Largo. Foreign travel vaccines used to be available at the St. Petersburg and Clearwater health centers, but now they are only available at the Largo location.

Dunedin, Florida -- Mease Dunedin Hospital unveiled its new surgical center operating suites Tuesday, June 19. The three suites are more than double the size of previous operating rooms and feature large HD monitors and cameras within surgical lights to view procedures.

Drinking Water Quality Report now available

CLEARWATER, Florida -- The City of Clearwater Public Utilities Department has released its annual Water Quality Report.

The report contains pertinent water quality information of interest to Clearwater residents.

As part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's "Safe Drinking Water Act Amendments," all water systems throughout the country must publish this annual report.

Free school, sport physicals for children

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Pinellas County Health Department's Northeast High School Clinic is offering free school and sport physicals to any Pinellas student from kindergarten to 12th grade.

Physicals are by appointment only and none are scheduled or performed at any other Pinellas County Health Department center.

The Northeast High School Clinic is located at 5500 16th St. N. in St. Petersburg. Call 727-570-3025 to make an appointment. Physicals are scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Thursday only.

Heatstroke Awareness Day is May 25

Seminole, Florida -- With outside temperatures starting to rise, the City of Seminole Fire Rescue wants to warn residents about heatstroke for National Heatstroke Day on May 25.

Parents should be especially aware of accidentally leaving children inside cars. According to NHSTA, heatstroke is the leading cause of non-crash vehicle fatalities for children 14 and under. NHSTA says one child dies nearly every 10 days from being left in a hot vehicle.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Due to annual staff training, the county says all health departments will offer limited services on Tuesday, May 22. 

The Vital Statistics division that processes birth and death certificates at the Mid-County Health Center location in Largo will not be offering services on May 22.

The county says normal services and hours will resume on Wednesday, May 23.

Free testing for Hepatitis A, B, and C on May 18

Free testing for Hepatitis A, B, and C on May 18

Pinellas County, Florida -- On May 18 the Pinellas County Health Department is offering free testing for Hepatitis A, B, and C at all of its health centers.

"Hepatitis" means an inflammation of the liver. Viral hepatitis is leading cause of liver cancer and the most common reason for liver transplantation. 

Vaccines for Hepatitis A and B are available through the county health department's STD clinics. There is no vaccine for Hepatitis C.

Hours for testing on May 18, for adults only, are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following locations:
