This event at the Fred Astaire Tampa Bay Dance Studio, located at 7019 Central Avenue in St. Petersburg, is from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 6. Guests will be educated and enlightened on the multitude of ways to enhance their mind, body and spirit!  Then, enjoy the dance party from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Dr. William LaTorre, founder of the LaTorre Wellness Center in St. Petersburg, will present the "6 Steps to Wellness and Anti-Aging Naturally."

Reminder: Dispose of unneeded medicine safely this weekend

Clearwater, Florida - City residents can dispose of old and unneeded prescription medications safely this weekend during "Operation Medicine Cabinet."

The medications will be collected with no questions asked at the Sears side of the Westfield Countryside Mall Saturday (4/30) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

No biohazards or needles will be collected.

The disposal program is intended for citizens and not for commercial concerns.

Gulfport hosts free oral cancer screenings

Gulfport, Florida - The City of Gulfport, in conjunction with the Oral Cancer Foundation, hosted a free Oral Cancer Screening Saturday at the Walgreen's parking lot on the corner of 58th St. S. and Gulfport Blvd. S. in Gulfport.

This event was spearheaded by Vice Mayor David Hastings through his experience with fighting oral cancer and surviving it.

Oral cancer belongs to the head and neck cancer group and is often referred to by other names such as tongue cancer, mouth cancer, tonsil cancer, lip cancer, and throat cancer. While some people think this is a rare cancer, it is not.

Free sports physicals for Pinellas student athletes

Palm Harbor, Florida -  Doctors from Morton Plant Mease, certified athletic trainers and physical therapists will be on hand on May 7 to give free sports physicals to students.

The exams include checks of height, weight, blood pressure, vision,  lungs and the musculoskeletal system.

The free event is Saturday, May 7 from 8 a.m. to noon at Palm Harbor University High School, 1900 Omaha Street.

St. Petersburg, FL -- Tyrone Square Mall and Calvert Promotions invite local residents to learn more about health & wellness at the Pinellas County Spring Health & Heart Show. 

The Pinellas County Health Department, along with numerous other local healthcare providers, will be present. 

In addition, New Image Dermatology will provide free skin cancer screenings.

The event goes on all day on Saturday, April 23.

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit is gearing up for its fifth installment of "Operation Medicine Cabinet" with 15 drop off sites throughout the county and one extended program - mobile collection location. The event is set for April 30, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The event is an opportunity for citizens to safely discard unused or expired prescription medications and is a multi-agency effort aimed at addressing the problem of prescription drug abuse and keeping a clean environment.

The theory behind this voluntary surrender of old medications is to keep them from hitting the streets.
