Largo, FL -- Largo Medical Center announced they have received the Get With The Guidelines®-Heart Failure Silver Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association.


The award is given to those hospitals reach an aggressive goal of treating heart failure patients with 85% compliance for one year to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology secondary prevention guidelines for heart failure patients. 


According to Get With The Guidelines-Heart Failure treatment guidelines, heart failure patients are started on aggressive risk-reduction therapies such as cholesterol-lowering drugs, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, aspirin, diuretics and anticoagulants in the hospital.

Palm Harbor, FL --  Fairway Pizza and Sports Page Pub, 3011 Alt. 19, is hosting the second annual Debbie Davis Breast Cancer Benefit on Feb. 12 from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

There will be vendors, glass blowing, raffles, live entertainment, drink specials and food. A silent auction will be at 9 p.m.

Kids activities are from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

All money raised will go directly to individuals in the community suffering with the financial struggles of breast cancer.

Countryside Rec Center adds cardio equipment

Clearwater, Florida -- The Countryside Recreation Center has gone high tech.

The facility has added LifeFitness interactive, touchscreen cardio equipment, including new treadmills and state of the art recumbent bicycles.

All the machines have high definition televisions.

"Patrons can bring their USB, iPod or iPhone and watch a favorite movie while working out since the new machines are Apple user-friendly," the city stated. "Those who bring an audio headset or headphone can choose from 80 basic cable television channels to watch while exercising."

Patrons can also make use of a free, virtual personal trainer, and can upload and download workouts from www.virtualtrainer.lifefitness.com. It features 36 custom workouts in 20 different languages.

Seniors get sassy with Fred Astaire dancers at Tyrone Square Mall each month

Dancers from the award-winning Fred Astaire Dance Studios are teaching senior citizens how to stay young through a series of free performances the first Tuesday of every month at the Tyrone Square Mall in St. Petersburg!

The performances are part of the S.A.S.S.Y. events hosted by the radio station WDUV, 105.5. S.A.S.S.Y. stands for “Seniors Are Someone Special Year-Round” and the program provides live entertainment, giveaways, health screenings and more. 

The Fred Astaire dancers perform a variety of kick-up-your-heels routines, from fun Latin dances to classic Waltzes at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. at each of the events. You can find the dancers in the area between Macy’s and Sears during the first Tuesday of each month now through November.

Dunedin, Florida -- There's a chance to gather a variety of useful information pertaining to senior health and wellness tomorrow as the 2011 Senior Awareness Fair comes to Dunedin, so don't miss your chance to learn more about fitness, well-being, and healthy living.

A variety of organizations and local businesses will be here with information concering trends, discounts, consumer awareness and opportunities that should be useful for senior citizens. The City of Dunedin and Parks and Recreation Department are presenting the annual tradition, which is sponsored by Papa Johns, Humana, Mease Manor Retirement Living, and St. Mark Village.

The event is free and open to the public, and is scheduled to run from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Dr. William E. Hale Senior Activity Center, at 330 Douglas Avenue.
