Free "Fit Over Fifty" health expo celebrates 10 years
Seminole, Florida -- The "Fit Over Fifty" Health and Wellness Expo is celebrating a decade-long legacy at this year's 2011 event. The expo will feature free drawings, games, product vendors, and educational services, which are all focused on wellness in senior citizens. There will be a healthy snack exhibit and free health screenings taking place throughout the event, which will take place from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27. Fit Over Fifty is sponsored by the City of Seminole Recreation Division, and is free and open to the public.

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- January is the month of highest blood usage by patients in Tampa Bay. In addition to the existing need for blood, there is currently a critical need for more minority donors on the National Marrow Donor Program's 'Be The Match' Registry.

Therefore, Ten News has teamed up with Chili's restaurants to sponsor Ten News Martin Luther King Day Blood & Marrow Donor Registry Drive, on Monday, January 17, 2011. 

All lifesaving donors will receive a commemorative  Martin Luther King Jr. T-shirt, a Chili's FREE $5 Be Our Guest Coupon and a wellness checkup, including a cholesterol screening.  In addition, all blood donors will receive information on joining  the National Marrow Donor Program's 'Be The Match' Registry!

A bloodmobile will be at the Ten News studios, located at 11450 Gandy Blvd. in Saint Petersburg.

Seminole, FL -- There is a new Peer Support Group for everyone affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders
and related disorders kicking off next week, on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 5:45 p.m. at Bay Pines Lutheran Church.

This Christian Peer Support Group for all people affected  by Autism Spectrum Disorders will include guest speakers once a month, resource-sharing, prayer, and emotional support.

County offers incentives for 100 mile walking program

Pinellas County, FL - If you are having trouble sticking to your New Year's resolution to get fit and slim down, the incentives offered in the Pinellas County Health Department's latest initiative just might keep your motivation up. In partnership with Step Up Florida, the county is introducing the free 100 Mile Walking Program, featuring health benefits as well as free t-shirts and certificates when the course is completed.

Helping you track the miles toward your fitness goals is all part of the Leap Into Healthy Living effort.

Walkers who turn in logs with 100 miles recorded receive a T-shirt and certificate. Best of all, they will improve their health, control their weight and feel better. Additional perks are the inexpensive, easy, and effective qualities of walking, which burns calories, builds muscle tone, lowers blood pressure, and relieves stress.

Hospitals go tobacco-free

Clearwater, FL -- For people at many area hospitals the last time to enjoy a smoke is this Saturday.  

BayCare Health System hospitals will become tobacco-free in January 2011. Mease Countryside, Mease Dunedin, Morton Plant, St. Anthony's, St. Joseph's, St. Joseph's Women's, St. Joseph's Children's and South Florida Baptist hospitals will all join Morton Plant North Bay and St. Joseph's Hospital-North in becoming tobacco-free.

All BayCare non-hospital facilities such as BayCare HomeCare, BayCare Behavioral Health and BayCare Outpatient and Imaging Centers will also be tobacco-free.
