Crowds packed the Walgreens parking lot well before 10 a.m. at Saturday's free cancer screening in Gulfport. The  screening, arranged by seven-year oral cancer survivor, Oral Cancer Foundation Senior Patient Advocate and local businessman David Hastings, also included a free PSA test and a skin cancer screening. People starting queueing for screenings at nine Saturday morning, an hour before the screenings began.

Health and Human Services offices close temporarily

Pinellas County, Florida -- Pinellas County’s department of Health and Human Services will close its offices at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, for a department staff meeting. This includes the department’s four locations:

  • Clearwater, 2189 Cleveland St., Suite 230
  • Largo, 8751 Ulmerton Road
  • St. Petersburg, 647 First Ave. N.
  • Tarpon Springs, 301 S. Disston Ave.

All Health and Human Services offices will reopen at 8 a.m. on Friday, April 26, and resume normal business hours.

Suncoast Health Council vacancies announced

Pinellas County, Florida -- Résumés are now being accepted for two two-year appointments to the Suncoast Health Council.

The Suncoast Health Council’s purpose is to “stimulate the establishment and continuous re-evaluation of community-oriented health goals.” They assess, plan and advise for the health needs in Pasco and Pinellas counties.

Update: Reclaimed water outage in south Pinellas County

Pinellas County, Florida -- The planned reclaimed water maintenance for south Pinellas County is complete and the system is currently being brought up to pressure.

Normal operating pressure should be achieved by 5 p.m. on Friday, April  19.

The entire system should be operating normally the rest of the weekend.

As the reclaimed system is brought back online, any reclaimed water line leaks or breaks should be reported to (727) 464-4000.

Free childhood immunizations during National Infant Immunization Week

Pinellas County, Florida -- Each year, thousands of children become ill from diseases that could have been prevented by basic childhood immunizations. Many more miss time from day care and school because they are under-immunized or inappropriately immunized.

Vaccines protecting children from diseases such as measles, whooping cough and polio are administered on a regular schedule as part of a child's course of care. Pediatricians, health providers and county health departments can provide vaccines at no cost to parents as part of the Vaccines for Children program.
