WIC drive-through offers real "fast food"

Pinellas County, Florida -- As an added convenience to busy parents, the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County's Mid-County center provides quick pick-up of WIC checks at a drive-through window modeled after those at banks and fast-food restaurants.

WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children) is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered in Florida by the Department of Health.

Reclaimed water outage in south Pinellas County

Pinellas County, Florida -- All south Pinellas County reclaimed water customers in the service distribution area of South Cross Bayou Water Reclamation Facility will be without reclaimed water service for up to 48 hours beginning Friday morning, April 19. Service is expected to be restored by Sunday morning, April 21 at the latest.

A contractor will be conducting planned maintenance on the system including replacement of a 48-inch reclaimed transmission valve at the South Cross facility.

Clearwater, Florida -- To celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 20, the Clearwater Gateway Farmers Market has special giveaways, cooking demonstrations, presentations and more for visitors.

The outdoor market offers fresh produce, artisan goods and more on the 1200 block of Cleveland Street (corner of Missouri Avenue) in downtown Clearwater from 9 AM to 2 PM each Saturday until the end of May.

The recognition signifies that Largo Medical Center has reached an exceptional goal of treating heart failure patients according to the guidelines of care recommended by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology.

This marks the 5th year Largo Medical Center  has been recognized with a quality achievement award.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Sam's Club is offering free health screenings to the public.

On Saturday, April 13, any Sam's Club location with a pharmacy will offer free health screenings that are valued up to $100.

According to The Pinellas County Community Health Assessment Executive Summary release in February 2013, reports that heart disease and cancer are leading causes of death in the area and that 20 percent of respondents do not have health coverage and reported they could not afford medical care.
