5 players sign at CCC on National Signing Day

Clearwater, Florida -- On Wednesday, the Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders were busy signing five players on National Signing Day.

This year's class included:

Linebacker Caanan Brown --   Virginia

Defensive Lineman Justus Reed - University of Florida

Running Back Diquan Walker - Holy Cross

FB/LB Conner Dorris - Naval Academy

Linebacker Ethan Thompson - Black Hills State

Jake Hudson named Player of the Week

Tarpon Springs, Florida - East Lake High School quarterback Jake Hudson is the 10 News Sports Player of the Week.

Last Friday night in East Lake's 49-15 win over Port Charlotte, Hudson completed 14-of-16 passes for 195 yards and five touchdowns. With the win, the unbeaten Eagles reach the state semifinals for the first time in school history.

The East Lake junior says none of their success would be possible without the outstanding play of the offensive line.

East Lake advances to state semi-finals with 49-14 win

Tarpon Springs, FL - The East Lake Eagles advance to the state semi-finals for the first time in school history with a 49-15 win over Port Charlotte.

Jake Hudson threw five touchdown passes, three to George Campball and two to Daniel LaCamera.

Artavis Scott also contributed with two touchdowns, including a dazzling 68-yard punt return, that put the Eagles up 21-0 in the first quarter.

East Lake blanks Pinellas Park, 45-0

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- The East Lake Eagles blanked Pinellas Park HS, 45-0, in the Region Semifinals Friday night.

The Eagles dominated the game from the 1st quarter.  Senior WR Artevis Scott scored the first two touchdowns, one receiving and one rushing.

DB Devin Abraham scored on a 55-yard run after a fumble recovery.

East Lake is 12-0 for the season, and hosts Port Charlotte in the 7A Region Final next Friday night.

Pinellas Park finishes its season 10-2, with both losses to East Lake.

 

Lakewood Spartans Sprint past the Spongers 30-9

In St. Petersburg Friday the Lakewood Spartans were playing host to the Spongers of Tarpon Springs in the second round of the state playoffs.

Early in the first, QB Ryan Davis connected with Darquez Watson for a 23-yard touchdown to put the Spartans up 6-0.

But in the second quarter Tarpon responded with a touchdown of their own as Montel Johnson plunged into the end zone from a few yards out.

In the 3rd quarter Lakewood opened things up as Ryan Davis scored on the QB keeper to go up 15-6.

Eagles Barely Survive first-round Scare

The Palmetto-East Lake first round matchup looked like a mismatch on paper but the Tigers almost stunned one of the state-title favorites. Palmetto came into the game with a 5-5 record and narrowly lost to the previously 10-0 Eagles, 13-12.

The Tigers' defense held the Eagles' high-powered offense in check for the first half. East Lake only managed two field goals.
