Artavis Scott named Player of the Week

Tarpon Springs - East Lake High School wide receiver Artavis Scott is the 10 News Sports Player of the Week.

Last Friday night, in a 42-12 district clinching win over previously unbeaten Pinellas Park, Scott rushed for 107 yards and scored two touchdowns.

While Scott's numbers weren't big, his two scores completely changed the direction of the game.

Pinellas Park clinches district with 46-10 win

Pinellas Park, FL-- The Pinellas Park Patriots clinched the district championship, with a convincing 46-10 win over Countryside.

It was still a 6-point game at the half, until the Park came out in the second half and scored 4 touchdowns.

RB Donte Maxson rushed just 7 times, but for 127 yards and 3 touchdowns.  The Patriots rushed for 302 yards and 5 touchdowns as a team.

East Lake stays unbeaten, 42-12 over Pinellas Park

Tarpon Springs, FL - East Lake was too much for Pinellas Park to handle Friday night, giving the Patriots their first loss of the season, while the Eagles remain unbeaten at 8-0 and claim the Class 7A-9 district title.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard first when quarterback Jake Hudson ran it in from the 1-yard line.  A few plays later, it was the defense chipping in, with Jacob Hansen returning an interception 17-yards to give East Lake a 14-0 lead.

Pierre Johnson named Player of the Week

Pinellas Park, FL - Pinellas Park running back Pierre Johnson is the 10 News Sports Player of the Week.

Last Friday night against Northeast, Johnson rushed for 166-yards and scored two touchdowns with only nine carries, in the Patriots 56-0 win over the Vikings.

Johnson doesn't get a lot of rushing attempts, as Pinellas Park is very deep at the running back position.  But he says that's not a problem at all.

Clearwater Central Catholic 35 St Pete Catholic 14

Clearwater, FL - Clearwater Central Catholic came into their Class 3A-5 district matchup against St. Petersburg Catholic with a lot of confidence.   And early on, it showed on the scoreboard.  The Marauders jumped out to a 28-0 lead, then held on for a 35-14 victory.
