Hillsborough defeats Largo 29-23

Largo, FL - Trailing 16-7 at the half, Hillsborough head coach Earl Garcia decided to give backup running back Jeremiah Green a chance.  

Green responded with 108 yards and two touchdowns, including a 77-yard run in the 4th quarter that helped seal the 29-23 victory for the Terriers.

With the win, Hillsborough moves on to face Armwood, who advanced with their 35-31 comeback victory against Lakewood Ranch.   Armwood beat Hillsborough 38-16 back in October.

East Lake soars past Vero Beach 41-22

Tarpon Springs, FL-- On Friday, the East Lake Eagles hosted the Vero Beach Indians in the first round of the state playoffs.  And from the get go both teams started with a three and out...But on the Eagles second possession they hit pay dirt with an 86-yard bomb from QB Pete DiNovo to Artavis Scott.  And that was only the start of the offensive outburst as DiNovo fund Stephen Buric for a six yard touchdown.

Venice ends Countryside's perfect season

Clearwater, Fla. -- Venice is officially the nemesis of Pinellas County.

For the second straight season, Venice traveled north to knock out an undefeated team in the first round of the playoffs.  Countryside was this year's victim, 28-27.

Grant Flessner scored a 21-yard touchdown run for Venice's winning score late in the fourth quarter.

Countryside trailed 21-7 before taking a 24-21 lead on a 9-yard touchdown run by Diomi Roberts.

Venice knocked off 10-0 St. Petersburg in the 2010 first round. The Indians will travel to Manatee next week.

HOT 101.5 Player of the Week

St. Petersburg, FL-- The HOT 101.5 high school football player of the week, is Canterbury running back Brent O'Neal.

In the win over Mount Dora last Friday, Brent rushed for 254 yards... and accounted for 7 touchdowns.

On the season, Brent has 2,664 all-purpose yards... 1,867 rushing yards... and 33 total touchdowns.

Palm Harbor wins season finale 14-13 over Pinellas Park

PALM HARBOR, Fla. -- Tonight was the final regular season home game in Palm Harbor. The Hurricanes hosted Pinellas Park. Both teams headed to the playoffs, but Palm Harbor will begin their march toward a state title with the taste of victory after beating Pinellas Park 14-13.

Palm Harbor opened the scoring with a first quarter touchdown.  Quarterback Billy Pavlock threw an 89-yard strike to Hunter Beam to put the Hurricanes up 7-0.

Largo gears up for the playoffs with a 42-21 win over Gibbs

It was the final regular season game for the Largo Packers and it was some fine practice for the playoffs. Packers whipped up on Gibbs 42-21.

Largo scored 3 times in the first quarter and led it 7-0 when Spartan Gary Simon scored 6 on a 75-yard kickoff return to tie the game. 

But the rest was all Packers.

Derrick Doss scored on a 95-yard kickoff return to make it 14-7 Largo.  Packer quarterback Juwan Brown tossed a 78-yard strike to Lakeif Daniels to put Largo on top 21-7 after the first quarter.

East Lake advances in volleyball playoffs

East Lake, FL-- The East Lake High School Eagles advanced in the state volleyball playoffs with a victory over Palm Harbor University High School.

The defending state champion Eagles defeated the Hurricanes in 3 straight games: 25-8, 25-10, and 25-23.  That's the 5th straight victory for East Lake over Palm Harbor this season.

They advance to the Region Finals on Saturday.
