Largo runs past Lakewood 20-6

St. Petersburg, FL - For the Largo Packers the offensive game plan was simple, give the ball to Jarvis Stewart, again, and again and again.

Stewart easily handled the load, finishing with nearly 236-yards on 39 carries, leading the Packers (4-1) past the Lakewood Spartans (3-2) 20-6 in a non-district game.

In the first quarter, Largo quarterback Donovan Hale faked a handoff to Stewart, and easily scampered in from 31-yards to give the Packers the early 7-0  lead.

10 News HS Football Plays of the Week

In Week 4 of the season, the 10 News High School Plays of the Week begin with this:

#2 is Sickles running back Ray Ray McCloud, showing some serious moves as he goes for a touchdown. He's made our Plays of the Week a few times already.

The #1 play is Pinellas Park running back Kal-el Williams. He barrelled through the line, and began carrying Seminole defenders down the field. It eventually took five Seminole players to bring down Kal-el Williams.

Lakewood avoids Gibbs upset

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Trailing 8-6 at halftime, Lakewood came out in the second half fired up. Jocqui Ellison took the reigns behind center and led the Spartans to two third quarter touchdowns.

Entering the fourth quarter, the Spartans held a 18-8 lead until Daquan Fowler hauled in a touchdown pass, pulling the Gladiators with in four.

Lakewood countered with a scoring run by Courtney Burges, giving the Spartans the final score of the ball game in a 24-14 victory.

East Lake Eagles Fly past Clearwater 61-16

Out in Clearwater tonight the Tornadoes were taking on the 3rd ranked East Lake Eagles...

Early in the first, Eagles running back Weston Fordham bursts one up the middle for a 7-yard score to put the Eagles up 7-0. Just a short time later East Lake blocks a punt in the end-zone for a safety to make it 10-0.And before the first was over, Justin Strand returned a punt 45-yards to put the Eagles up 17-0.

At half time the score was 54-3....as East Lake went on to win this one by a final score of 61 to 16.

Largo starts fast, beats Gibbs, 32-13

Largo, FL-- The Largo Packers, ranked 6th in this week's 10 News high school football poll, scored 3 touchdowns in the first quarter on their way to a 32-13 win over Gibbs.

Running back Jarvis Stewart rushed 26 times for 213 yards, and a pair of touchdowns.  His second score, a 74-yard run in the 3rd quarter, put the Packers up 26-0.

Jonathan Crawford passed for a touchdown, and ran for one.  Largo improved to 2-1.  Gibbs fell to 0-3.


10 News HS Football Plays of the Week

Here are the 10 News High School Football Plays of the Week.

In Play #2, watch QB Colby Brown of Plant hand the ball forward to Alexander Jackson. That fools Robinson. Jackson goes 50 yards. Plant defeated Robinson in the battle of South Tampa, 28-7.

Our top play is also the USA TODAY National play of the week. Largo QB Donovan Hale's pass is tipped and goes right to East Lake's Carson Lydon for the interception and a good return. It's a key play in East Lake's first win over Largo in 4 years, 22-0.

Our Number 1 play of the week courtesy East Lake High School in Tarpon Springs. Linebacker Carson Lydon keeps his eye on the ball and comes up with the tipped ball for an interception and a nice return.
