Tarpon Springs, Florida -- A sponger may not seem like an odd choice for a mascot in a city like Tarpon Springs--where sponge diving goes back for generations.  But outside the city, it's unique.  And that uniqueness could help the Spongers win a national contest.

On Friday night in Clearwater not only was it a rivalry game between Clearwater Central Catholic and Tampa Catholic, but it was a chance to advance past the second round of the class 3A State Playoffs.

In the first quarter neither team could get anything going offensively as they exchanged several punts. But by the second quarter, Tampa Catholic was able to get on the board first with a goal-line plunge from Kenny Bryant to make it 7-0 Crusaders.
