St. Petersburg, FL-- Former Buccaneer tight end Dave Moore, was named Wednesday the new head coach at Shorecrest Prep in St. Petersburg.

Moore replaces longtime Shorecrest head coach Phil Hayford.

Moore played 15 seasons in the NFL, 13 with the Bucs as tight end and long snapper.

Moore said he wasn't thinking about a high school head coaching career, but after talking with Headmaster Michael Murphy and Athletic Director Tripp Welborne, the idea became more attractive.  Plus, his daughter and son attend Shorecrest.

AFA teaches discipline, wins football

St. Petersburg, Fla. -- Chris Miller understands what his players go through at Admiral Farragut.

"These kids wear Navy uniforms every day," Miller said. "They have formation every day, shining the shoes, belt buckles, Navy haircut. They take Navy ROTC classes."

As the only private school in the nation with a Junior ROTC program, Admiral Farragut teaches discipline.  Thanks to that structure and a few elite players, the Blue Jackets football team is headed to the first state championship in school history.

AFA routed in 2A final

Orlando, Fla. -- Admiral Farragut was playing in the school's first football state championship game against six-time winner North Florida Christian.  Whether it was inexperience in a big game or less talent, as AFA running back Todd Macon said, "they punched us in the mouth."

NFC scored touchdowns on their first nine offensive possessions en route to a 69-0 win the Class 2A final.

The Blue Jackets were held to just 121 total yards and missed a field goal on their only possession inside the red zone before the game's final play ended at the 5-yard line.

Admiral Farragut advances to championship with 42-16 win over Glades Day

St. Petersburg, Fl - The Admiral Farragut Blue Jackets hosted the Glades Day Gators in a Class 2A state semi-final game.   The Gators came into the game with a lot of swagger and confidence, and rightly so.   Glades Day is the two-time defending 2A state champions and they also have Florida's most prolific rusher in junior Kelvin Taylor.

The Blue Jackets were also confident because they have a trio of dynamic runners, lead by senior Rayshawn Jenkins, junior Todd Macon and sophomore Napoleon Maxwell.

East Lake Outlasts Palm Harbor 33-26

On Friday in Tarpon Springs, the East Lake Eagles had a re-match with Palm Harbor in the second round of the state playoffs.  And much like the first contest that came down to a missed extra point, this game went down to the wire as well.
