Tarpon Springs police investigating attempted robbery, shooting | News
TARPON SPRINGS, Florida -- Tarpon Springs police are searching for a man who allegedly tried to rob two teens, shooting one of them.
According to police, the victims -- a 19-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl -- were walking together near S. Walton Ave. when a Hispanic man came out of an unlit wooded area with a gun and a hood concealing his face.
Police say he had the couple move to an area away from the sidewalk, where the 19-year-old attempted to disarm the suspect, who then shot the teen in the left side of his chest during the struggle.
The suspect ran away, heading east through the wooded area he came from.
The teen was taken to Bayfront Medical Center. His condition is not know at this time.
The suspect has not been found. He's described as a Hispanic man in his early 30's, approximately 5'3" to 5'5", 130-150 lbs., and was last seen wearing a gray or blue hoodie.
